Test Match Special – Howzat for a Prize!

England Cricket team took the one-day series. India romped to victory in the T20.

We make that one apiece.

Now, with the test series kicking off this week, things are finely balanced as we head to Edgbaston.

And as excitement builds, so does activity here at NATS as we work with airlines and airports across the UK to help them welcome thousands of Indian cricket fans who’ve travelled from across the globe to see Kohli and co take on our boys.

However, it won’t just be the Indian players on the pitch who will be counting the air-miles when the first ball is bowled on Wednesday. Many of the bats used by our favourite players to drive, hook and cut the ball over the boundary have also made the long journey. Produced from Indian willow, they too have made the trip across UK airspace.

And while many of the fans in the stands may be enjoying what they consider as a very British cup of tea – or pint! – chances are that these were produced abroad and flown in via our skies for everyone to enjoy. All thanks to the hard work of NATS’ air traffic controllers, who regularly manage the safe passage of more than 8,000 passenger and freight flights per day.

To celebrate their role and increase awareness for the way their vital work impacts our daily lives, we’ve launched the #SkyByNumbers campaign.

For the next 11 Mondays we’ll be asking a new airspace related question – bowl us over with the right answer and you could be one of two lucky winners walking away with £250 each.
