Live ops due to begin at Manchester’s new £20m tower

Manchester Airport’s new £20m control tower is due to take over live operations at the UK’s third biggest airport during the night tonight.

It has been a project that started to be considered in 2008 with the first turf being cut in November 2011.

Then what has now become the second tallest air traffic control tower in the UK at 60m went from ground level to almost its full height in nine days of continuous concrete pouring to create the stalk.

NATS Manchester Air Traffic Control General Manager Paul Jones has been looking forward to the completion of a landmark project. We caught up with him to hear his thoughts in the video below.
