Understanding ATC
Women in engineering (Pt. 3)
20 March 2015Following the launch of our new Engineering Apprenticeship programme it seemed an opportune time to feature another article in our women in engineering series to encourage potential apprentices from both genders to apply before the deadline at the end of March. This one is from Katie Butler, Project Manager in Services and Infrastructure with NATS.
Preparing for the solar eclipse
19 March 2015As the solar eclipse grabs the attention of people world-wide, many will be unaware of the how this impacts aviation – and why we need to prepare for it.
Industry events provide a useful opportunity for organisations to promote their wares and for individuals to reinforce relationships and grow their network of contacts. NATS will be exhibiting at the CANSO World ATM Congress at the IFEMA complex in Madrid from 10 – 12 March.
From code breaking to ATC training
5 March 2015Time at Bletchley, whether as a resident apprentice or a course attendee, is considered to be a formative time in an engineer’s life.
NATS College of Telecommunications Engineering not only trained apprentices, but also provided continuing professional development for existing staff and other companies or countries wishing to take advantage of the comprehensive technical facilities.
A new NATS exhibition space in the National Museum of Computing will open in April 2015.

‘Flights of the Future’
23 January 2015I was privileged to have the opportunity to address a distinguished audience at the Royal Academy of Engineering at their New Year Reception.
It was an occasion to showcase NATS and its vital role in the UK economy, offering a glimpse of the real air traffic control (ATC) operation today, and hypothesise on what might be seen in the future, as technologies allow us to challenge how we have always done things.
Not going to university?
22 January 2015More and more young people are finishing their A levels and BTEC level 3s looking for an alternative to university. Well-structured apprenticeship schemes are increasingly popular and considered as a really positive alternative for school and college leavers who already have an idea of what they want to do.
NATS now offers an advanced engineering apprenticeship scheme to reflect this change in the marketplace.
Space weather and air traffic control
14 January 2015In order to minimise the impact of space weather and prepare for its effects, NATS works closely with the Met Office and their ground-breaking new space weather centre.
